About

Donal Sheehan has a mixture of work experience in different areas of architecture which is supported through his coursework in interior architecture. He has worked on multi-million Euro projects including The Stepaside Apartments in Dublin, Ireland and a project in Austin Court, Basingstoke United Kingdom with a budget exceeding 25 million Euro. Additional experience includes furniture design, with the award winning team “Duff/Tisdall,” and vast experience with planning permission

Donals desire to broaden his experience led him to travel the world for a year in 2008. While doing so, he worked as a structural draftsman in Brisbane, Australia so as to add to his growing skill-set. The Architecture of the southern hemisphere was a huge highlight of his trip and during his travels he kept a diary of montages and photos of each place he visited.

Donal returned to Cork Institute of Technology in 2009 to obtain his honours degree in interior architecture following his travels. During his time at CIT, Donal showed his potential as a professional and finished top of his class with first class honours. Specifically, Donal was graded top of his class on his studio project, "The Student Village,” a successful redevelopment of a 1973 unsustainable college structure into a sustainable building as well as a dissertation on “Sustainable Refurbishment of Non-Domestic Buildings.”  Donal’s achievements and work were highly praised by both CIT professors and external examiners. Additional noteworthy achivemnts involve donal finishing second place in the competition "Design a Smoking Shelter". This was his first design entry. Donals design is one of three on the short list and therefore holds a chance of being erected by the college in the near future.

Donals passion for design was evident in his final year as he took on the argues task of class representative, a task he took great pride in.
Donal is a keen footballer, surfer and soccer player, in which he is a former MVP.  In general Donal is an all rounded sports fan.

Education

Cork Institute of Technolgy, BArch, Interior Architecture

Qualified in 2011 with a First Class Honours Degree, Donal Sheehan is highly motivated and committed to the delivery of excellence within the field of architecture. His philosophy states "good design is good business.” Donal Sheehan offers a large array of skills in the field of architecture including sustainable architecture, interior architecture, project managing, architectural and structural drafting, and obtaining both residential and commercial planning permission. Donal believes that clients deserve quality, passion, and dedication, which he can offer to all projects. Donal’s designs have been described as both innovative and imaginative, which he strives for.

Donal’s primary focus has been on sustainable solutions, a component of his dissertation research. Donal achieved the notable first class honours in his research on "Sustainable Refurbishment of Non-Domestic Buildings" as well as achieving the highest grade in his year. His research closely evaluated the need to successfully refurbish non - sustainable buildings, the circumstances for doing so and sustainable techniques in how it can be achieved.

Donals passion for design lead him again to finish top of his year with his innovate studio project. Donal has time and time again impressed both lecturers and external examiners alike, with his imaginative take on architecture. In this instance, Donal successfully redeveloped a 1973 unsuitable building into a sustainable college of the future. Donal was highly acclaimed on his achievements. Designer and TV personality Neville Knott and award winning architect Eileen Kirby calmed that Donals project was indeed as good, if not better than the great architect Daniel Libeskind, an architect Donal admires greatly.

In June 2011, Donal’s passion and commitment was rewarded with the position of head designer on the retro fit of the main canteen at CIT. Donal had a budget of 150,000 Euro at his disposal to design the new canteen, a project in which he also project managed. The project is currently at tender stage and the anticipated completion date is September 9th 2011.

Donal is currently on a shortlist of candidates nominated for student of the year, an honour he would greatly appreciate. Donal harbours a strong ambition to pursue a career in architecture and would be grateful for any opportunity you may afford him.
