The Westwood Hotel, New York

According to the Travel Industry Association, “over 29 million US adults have traveled with a pet in the last three years, and spent over $45 billion on their pets in 2011 alone.” With the growing number of pet owners traveling with their dog in the United States, it seems appropriate to fulfill an industry need and provide these owners with a warm and luxurious home away from home where guests can have the best of both worlds, enjoyable and carefree travel without the guilt of leaving the dog at a kennel or alone in the hotel room.

The hotel design places emphasis on the idea of biophilia, bringing outdoor elements of nature including colors, shapes, forms, and light indoors to provide a soothing environment for guests and their dogs. The Westwood appeals to a dog owners values and lifestyle in the hotel’s proximity and views of the Hudson River park across the street, the High Line running through the 3rd floor of the building, the floor to ceiling windows for optimal views and daylighting, biophilic design elements as well as the numerous hotel amenities for active lifestyles and care services for dogs.
