In the San Gabriel Mountains on the Mount Wilson Observatory area, a retreat is designed for researchers to inhabit and work at. While now incorporating the structure, this project practices the idea of a braced frame either through a tower, bridge, or cantilever form. Splitting the research facilities and the housing into two separate buildings and connecting the two with a central bridge allows a easy transition between the two.
To reflect the surrounding environment, the façade is wrapped with louvers to incorporate a wood texture while providing privacy for the residents that reside inside. As well as limited opens, to engage users to gather in public spaces inside to view the outdoors together and encourage people to explore the views outside rather than remaining inside.
