I can only think of Carlo Scarpa's "fertile detail", but then, that's not really that dirty is it?

One of my professors said "errection sequence" in a lecture once. Some one was recording that lecture, so we found it afterwards and replayed just about 100 times..

I was lucky enough to have worked on a Log Lodge in Wyoming with some local craftspeople. The coordination effort was very amusing over the phone:

Butt Swell - When the wide end of a log absorbs too much moisture
Beaver Chew - A style of detailing the ends of Logs into a point, AKA Variegated Beaver Chew
Log Jam - An insulating product stuffed in the gaps between logs

There are more, I just can't remember right now.

"laying studs" is a common terminology used in the field. my old colleague, his boyfriend, and i were at a bar one night. colleague said he was out in the field laying studs all day. his boyfriend, a novice when it comes to architecture, needed some clarification.

hmm, i haven't been thinking enough on job sites, but "tongue-and-groove" has some less-than-honorable implications.

because the way they say it here in TX it comes out more "tongueingroove."

today my boss referred to a concrete detail finishing technique called "sack-rubbed". I'm bloody serious here folks...... He told me to write the note:

"Chimney cap shall be of pre-cast concrete, with 'sack-rubbed' finish."

Not cracking up was the hardest thing I did all day.

it's an opening in a structure that equipment/ materials can be lowered into the building. i've usually only seen this at renovation construction where access is very limited (as in historic buildings) or underground work (such as subway stations or tunnels).

I can't believe as soon as I take some time away I'm missing this discussion, dangit! And now I'm too flustered from laughing to come up with anything better than "plank".

One of the first bamboo flooring companies called their product "Bamplank", as a matter of fact. That's fun.

Porno in a HARDWARE store .....

What kind of screw would you like ? Would that be a
SELF TAPPING SCREW ?

or a LAG SCREW perhaps, ... here, let's go for the THUMB SCREW

no, no how about a SLOTTED HEAD SCREW.

... on second thought
that's where we go for our ALLEN HEAD when we cannot get any more PHILLIPS HEAD

Well in order to DRILL that SCREW you'll need to first TAP a PILOT HOLE and then COUNTER SINK the ELEMENT......

This is the part of the nail we like to call the SHANK .... oh those are the FLOORING NAILS ....
