New Residence - Pelham, NY

This 4,300 SF single family home, custom designed for a private
client, was tailored to fit seamlessly into its surroundings. Our
aesthetic goal was not only to integrate the house smoothly into
the neighborhood, but also to reinforce the neighborhood’s diversity.
Existing houses on the block were built in wide variety of
architectural styles—Mediterranean, Tudor, Normandy, Craftsman,
and Colonial Revival. Georgian architecture, however, was notably
missing. As a result, we chose a Georgian Revival style, with references
to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and Palladio, as a natural
addition to the neighborhood mélange—completing and enhancing
the whole.
The grand double height entry foyer sets the tone for the entire
first floor of the house and its surrounding grounds. Features
that include a formal living room; dining room with an adjoining
butler’s pantry; great room with kitchen and family room; library;
conservatory, and powder room pay homage to Georgian roots.
The great room and the adjacent library open out onto the terrace
and garden. 10' Ceilings and a radiant heating system grace the
first floor with an easy elegance. The second floor of the house
contains an opulent master suite, three guest bedrooms, three
bathrooms, and a laundry room.
Although the house was built with traditional materials, the methods
of construction were entirely modern and the resulting structure
is filled with the amenities suitable to contemporary family life.
