Intended as an homage to the original Smurthwaite house, Smurthwaite² draws attention to materiality by framing the Smurthwaite house with ubiquitous materials- A large exterior brick volume encloses a smaller, inhabitable shingle volume to create a space whose intended programmatic use is that of an exhibition/gallery space.
