It was the dream of the Owner’s, “to have a large wrap-around porch as a screened “outdoor escape” veranda to serve as a place to eat, sleep, and family gather in their semi-suburban home, as they used-to on summer vacations at several old lake cabins.

The artistic challenges were:  1). the interior depth on the east plan area required a raised clerestory section with interior exposed columns to reduce roof rafter spans, to allow natural light & ventilation, set-up the long dining area, and be the spring point for the hip roof to turn West at the sleeping corner.  2). integrating the low-slope roof form to an asymmetrical cottage exterior with several plan shifts.  3). to allow for the floor to drain, be power-washable, and the design to withstand weathering, use, and be low maintenance.

An enclosed outdoor shower “open to the sky” is on the NW for the dogs.
