Culturally Based New Community Of Harmony And Unity

Over the past decade in Cairo, gentrification and the construction of elevated highways plowing through residential areas has rendered them uninhabitable, leading to countless abandoned and demolished buildings, creating a miles-long testament to the disrupted communities that once thrived there. As a result, most of the inhabitants live in unauthorized, informal, neglected settlements.

Architecture is a powerful tool that can be utilized to create community-oriented,
sustainable, and safe spaces. However, when it is misused, it can destroy communities and displace populations. The goal of this masterplan is to provide housing and supportive resources for the vulnerable populations that were impacted.

The proposal integrates vernacular and contemporary architecture to create vibrant, biophilic, and curvilinear forms that are reminiscent of the city’s rich history and culture.
