PollyTopia

Research historical and religious references of the Shakers. Proposed a rural-planning design for the future of the site of the last practicing Shaker Village by merging all the historic shaker villages to this final site.

“PollaTopia” is a term I developed from the native Greek word “Polla,” which means “many.” The word evolved into the well-known Latin prefix “Polly” or “Poly,” which is commonly used today. "Topia" means "place," often used in words like Utopia (No Place) or Dystopia (Bad Place).

The idea behind “PollaTopia” was to unify the many Shaker villages by bringing all the unused buildings from the abandoned sites to the only practicing Shaker village as of today. “PollaTopia” takes the “many” utopian Shaker spaces and relocates them into one final “place.”

Chosen for CityWorks.
