I began working with metal as a child, inspired by my father, who made miniature steam engines and furniture and held patents. Metal’s allure is that it can produce graceful, unexpectedly strong forms that can seemingly defy gravity or embody permanence. It also is enormously unforgiving, requiring planning, precision and focus. Errors can lead to failure - or invention. Rather than make sculpture I tend to merge functional with poetic. Lately I have been incorporating  wood, mica, paper, cloth, concrete and resins.
