CIty of Brawley - Water Treatment Facility Redevelopment Plan

This study examines the potential for reuse of the former site of the City’s Water Treatment Facility. The water treatment operations were relocated approximately five years ago from the 11.5-acre parcel, where they shared the site with the City’s Public Works Department offices and maintenance yard (Figure 1). The water treatment operations, which occupied 9.23-acres of the site, were relocated to an updated facility in the southern portion of the City. The Public Works offices and maintenance yard portion of the site, which includes a small City park, is still currently being utilized and represents 2.30 acres of the parcel. With the exception of the Public Works offices and City park, the site no longer serves a productive purpose in the City. The majority of the site, 9.23-acres, is abandoned. The vacant buildings, idle equipment and empty concrete-lined basins, which are remnants of the water treatment operations, are unsightly and likely to become further deteriorated as they continue to be exposed to the natural elements.
