STRANDED BANDS

The cities safest and most continuous bike paths meander through large park landscapes along the cities edge.  However, the majority of Chicago’s bike network remains fragmented and consistently competes with vehicular traffic.  By banding a new scenic bike lane with recreational park landscapes, the inner city bike network can utilize continuous and hazard free lanes.  The banded landscapes spread a new spine of urbanity that weaves through the open boulevards.  At certain points, the continuous banded loop becomes a building hosting cultural spaces such as libraries, schools, or galleries.  The new cultural centers combine with new and existing CTA stations to create local nodes that develop the immediate communities.  The collective bands generate a new loop infrastructure that develops a new artery within the city.
