South Brooklyn 2030

South Brooklyn 2030 is a conceptual project for the densification of cities in a post-primary fossil fuel world.  It begins with those areas of  Red Hook, Governor's Island, and the Gowanus Canal, left under-utilized by the withdrawal of industrial and shipping functions.  It proposes infill with a symbiotic mix of housing, commercial, and eco-industrial uses.  The Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel is converted to mass transit  with a station at Governor's Island.  The elimination of auto access to the tunnel allows for a reconnection of the street grid between Red Hook and the areas north.   Following the city's RFP for a technology university on Governor's Island, a campus is proposed, focusing on alternative energy, epigenetics, and urban agriculture.
