Excerpts from Thesis Abstract:

The Green Age Zeitgeist refers to the current spirit of the expanding sustainable initiative for all products and the materials used to make them “green”. This thesis seeks to educate the reader about composite materials and the emerging bio-based alternatives that will impact a range of products including furniture design and the processes by which they are made.

The design intent for solutions will be to best show the capability of biocomposites with inspiration from the processes used to create them. Rather than creating a form and then determining a material, the processes they are showcasing will directly influence the designs. In addition to the furniture pieces, the final outcome for this thesis will be the development of designer considerations so that other designers may be able to utilize this emerging group of materials.
