Wither and Wield explores the dynamic relationship between architecture, technology and humans. As buildings have the capacity to become efficient machines, able to perform or enhance every task of our body, the focus becomes what architecture can do for the mind. A body breaks down; potential emerges for an intimate and dynamic relationship between home and self. In creating a house for a body inflicted with multiple sclerosis, intelligent design creates a dwelling which assumes strategic functions of the body in order to maintain freedom of mind. Progression of the disease is both systematic and spontaneous; with unpredictable rates of change over a full life-span.

Architecture operates as a catalyst for communication; integrating body, mind and environment. A morphogenetic architecture; on the cusp of building and machine whose only inhabitant is one’s mind and whose only limit is the imagination.

Imagine a home where the mind is the master. As the body decays, the architecture responds. The flat and generic becomes strategic and articulate. Architecture is the over-arching system which allows the human body to dwell within technology. As increasingly invasive technology is embedded into the home, Architecture has the inspired potential of mitigating the relationship between body and mind by embracing this technology, manipulating it to develop and grow as part of its occupant.
