As part of a small team of colleagues at the office, we
were awarded two back to back innovation incubator
grants to design and implement a parklet in the thriving
neighborhood south of Market St. in San Francisco.

A grassroots movement that has been growing fast in
SF, parklets are reclaimed parking spaces converted into
public parks for the use and enjoyment of the people.

Meeting with the community and excited business
owners adjacent to the chosen site is helping develop a
design that is evolving from the ideas, goals and
desires of its users and caretakers. The project aims
to finalize design and construction in 2011.

Community events so far have included building a mock
parklet in site during Park(ing) Day 2010, a social,
international yearly event where people claim public
parking spaces and convert them into pocket parks,
humanizing and empowering their own community.
