DESCRIPTION: The Chicago River and Lake Michigan both offer the opportunity for a very viable source of transit, but no Ferry system currently exists. This project examined creation of a Ferry Terminal building located on Chicago's Navy Pier which could offer an alternate source of transportation within the Chicago area and to states sharing Lake Michigan's waterfront, which could be especially useful to alleviate strain on the current transportation system in instances of large events, such as the proposed 2012 Olympics.

The idea propelling this building design was to create a building with spaces which could be in use 24/7 with different programs. Stairs for day traffic could become seating for night theater, exhibition space could become restaurant space, and circulation paths could change from transit to fitness. FAT space means that the space that encompasses a vast array of program in the same space over a period of time.
