Hi there My name is Malcolm Stewart and I am an Architectural Technologist, I graduated from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, in the Republic of South Africa. To give you a better understanding of what I can do, I will start off with a breakdown of what my curriculum encompassed at university. Throughout my university career (which is a 3 year course) I had three major subjects namely Design, Studio Work, and Construction and Detailing. Design speaks for itself as to what it is but in Studio Work we always produced a set of very detailed construction drawings in AutoCad for one of our design projects per semester, and Construction and Detailing was a more theory based subject in which we learned about different construction methods and our building codes, but as with Design and Studio Work we had to submit a portfolio at the end of each semester. Other subjects that I studied were: Theory of Design, History of Architecture, Land Surveying, Building Science, Computers ( we learned how to use AutoCad, SketchUp, AutoCad 3D, Revit and Corel Draw. And as for my professional experience, I have been working for a firm called Stretford Holdings who specializes in kitchens and interiors. But due to the nature of what I studied I have dealt with renovations and alterations to existing houses and have been responsible for producing the construction drawings for them and seeing that the plans are approved for construction by our local authority. But working at Stretford Holdings means that I have designed kitchens and interiors and have also produced construction drawings for the various projects. I mention this because we have a workshop attached to our office that employs fitters and turners to produce what we have designed, so I have a good knowledge of how to spec finishes,opening mechanisms, etc etc. I can also do detailed steel work drawings for applications such as stairs, balustrades, awnings, and gates. But my plans for the future are to emigrate after completing my post graduate studies, so hence me creating this profile on Archinect.
