Santiago Sanjuan is an Architect and a Urban Planner. He has a notable trajectory both academic and professional; studying, working and teaching in several countries. He has a comprehensive vision with special emphasis on the intellectual, creative, research and management fields.

Santiago holds a dual master degree in Architecture and in Planning from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain and Polytechnic of Milan, Italy. He earned a scholarship for the internship program in Milan, Italy and an investigation scholarship to develop his final thesis which was published and awarded with honors. He has been a licensed architect in Spain since 1999.

He worked for the internationally recognized Italian urban planning firm, Piani e Projetti, directed by Dott. Arch. GianPaololo Maffioletti, with special dedication to the project of planning and landscape design for the new Metro line Milano-Cinisello. Upon his return to Valencia in 1999 he began a two year period of work for Santiago Calatrava as Project Manager and as a member of the construction administration team for the Museum of Science in Valencia, Spain. He also collaborated on several projects as architectural designer for the Ysios Wine Cellar in La Rioja, Spain, and the Opera House in the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia.

In 2001 he founded SSMDV ARQUITECTOS, a full service Architecture and Urban Design firm, in Valencia. As Principal, he worked for private and government sectors, and was responsible for the design, supervision, and management of projects over all phases both locally and abroad. These projects included new construction, alteration and restoration for residential, city equipment, industrial, commercial, and urban planning markets. The firm has participated in many architectural competitions that have been awarded, published, and developed to completion. Among these projects are: 1st Prize for International Competition for Young Architects of the European Union for the master plan of a 45 unit row-housing in Lille, France; 1st Prize for the Special Education Center ‘Miguel de Cervantes’ located in Alicante, Spain.

Since 2004, Santiago continues to combine his professional practice with teaching as Professor of Architectural Design in the School of Architecture of Valencia, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses and tutoring final thesis projects for the past 8 years. He taught as Adjunct Assistant Professor for the Department of Urban Design at the School of Architecture of Milan. He has participated in workshops and seminars as a lecturer, critic, and jury member, at several academic institutions in Spain, Italy and Germany.
