About

Born in China, New York based multidisciplinary furniture designer Ellie Wen emphasizes a hybrid approach to her work and explores objects from an unconventional perspective. All along the way, she has been training her professional skills and knowledge in both science and design. Received a bachelor degree of biotechnology, she graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with Master of Art degree in furniture design.

She believes design and art share the same codes and they are both about creating meaningful artifacts and experiences. Her designs often draw on everyday aspects of contemporary culture to create objects that are sometimes as much conceptual art as they are contemporary design.

Blending elements of fashion, technology, science, psychology and cultures, she breaks the boundaries of materials and shapes and challenges the conventional. Deeper meanings in terms of history, politics or philosophy are always explored because she believes design is a method and media to reshape, and enhance the sophistication, beauty or imperfection of the world and question the real meaning of being.
