This position was a competitive position within the UT Arlington Architecture school in which the Dean of Architecture chose students to be interviewed by the Arlington Urban Design Center (Audc). The AUDC is a design office that helps business owners in Arlington realize and visualize projects ranging from master planning to facade improvements and adaptive reuse. This was a unique opportunity for me to meet clients and determine their needs directly. I was also responsible for designing and visualizing their needs in a clear and professional manner. I currently have 3 projects that I consulted on under construction.

This position was a summer internship in which I learned the key components to the architectural process, and how a very large firm operates. My responsibilities were mainly, but no limited to, submittals, red lining drawings, job site deliveries and visits, drawing management and revision under supervision. This position was my first experience in a large firm, and getting my feet wet with the process of architecture. I learned a great deal from this internship.

My studies in graduate school have continued to research and implement land forms, green roofs, and landscape design in order to make buildings more cohesive elements in their environments. During this journey I have found that digital technology is the most efficient medium in which to investigate these themes in architecture.

Awarded to students at the accredited schools of architecture in Texas on a rotating basis. The eligibility requirements are as follows:
a. Student must be in their fourth year or higher in a professional degree program in Architecture.
b. Student must be in good academic standing.
c. Student must demonstrate a financial need in order to continue his or her education.
The recipient will be selected by the Texas Architectural Foundation Directors upon recommendation by the Dean

2011 Alliance for Innovation Award, Award
This award was won by the Arlington Urban Design Center with a portfolio of projects that included a great number of which I was the lead designer. The award is for innovation within a community utilizing innovation and design.
2011 Texas APA Current Planning Award, Award
The APA Texas Planning Awards Program recognizes individuals, organizations and communities for outstanding contributions to planning in Texas. Any APA Texas member may nominate plans, projects, programs, individuals, or organizations to several categories. Nominated plans, projects, programs, and studies must have been completed within two years of the nomination submittal date. The Awards Committee evaluates nominees based on innovation, transferability, quality, implementation, and comprehensiveness. The 2011 APA Texas Planning Awards were announced at the APA Texas Conference in Austin.
HKS Design Research Collaborative 2009/2010, 2nd Place
A work group from the University of Texas at Arlington – including Lance Abaya, Alex Dahm, Irving Gatica, Jon Holden, Patrick Kratz, Soid Manzano, Jared Nance, Varia Smirnova and Heather Stoker received second place recognition. The group examined the capacity for architectural design to leverage the use of digital technology to respond to social and practical issues related to engaging and educating elementary school children. Specifically, the study illustrates how digital technology can be applied to provide highly efficient yet customizable design solutions for costs competitive to traditional forms of construction. Parametric modeling, digital fabrication and sustainability principles helped develop this cost-efficient solution for the REAL School Gardens, a non-profit organization in the Dallas-Fort Worth area established to create an educational program for underprivileged neighborhoods.
2010 Midwest Texas APA Planning Advocate Award, Award
The annual awards program recognizes outstanding planning efforts, innovative projects, best practices and planning leadership, advocacy and education. A panel of volunteers reviewed the entries submitted by private and public sector planners, students, educators and organziations. The entries were evaluated based on originality, quality, implementation, public participation and the role of planners, among other category-specific criteria.

This is by far the achievement I am the most proud of. I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in under 2 years. Eagle Scout is a rank that is highly coveted within the Boy Scouts of America administration.
