About 

Joel has a multifaceted career in the architecture & construction industry spanning over the last 10 years. His diverse background includes: design, technology, business, management, and hands-on aspects in the industry. His career has allowed him to evolve into a proven professional working with world class institutions & companies in which he has worn many hats as a: architectural designer, project engineer, estimator, construction project manager, field superintendent, real estate owners representative, and a OSHA certified health and safety officer.

 

Joel is interested in creative solutions for his customers where he can use various aspects of his background in a collaborative environment. He is especially interested in an infrastructural design/build aesthetic. A disciplined aesthetic that uses "off-the-shelf" items in an innovative (sometimes "off-the-wall") ways. He believes we can do this while still respecting and learning from tried and true methods.

Joel is also involved in "green" architecture and modular building practices. Presently, he is seeking to enhance his background by obtaining a LEED certification. Furthermore, Joel was recently a team member on the Southern California Institute of Architecture and California Institute of Technology (SCI-Arc/CalTech) "CHIP:2011" Solar Decathlon 2011 team. He used a variety of his professional experience to help lead a team of 40 students ship a net solar house from Los Angeles, CA to Washington, DC. Joel also acted as a designer, builder and the team's Chief Health and Safety Officer.

Team Member and Health & Safety Officer / Director of a CHIP:2011 net-zero solar house built and designed in conjunction with the California Institute of Technology (Cal Tech) competed on a world stage against 20 collegiate teams in Washington DC's Potomac Park on the National Mall in October 2011.

The House placed the following in the Solar Decathlon:
- 1st place "Solar Power Net Metering"
- 2nd place "Engineering"
- 3rd place "Affordability"

- Worked on a insulation scheme that used recycled denim wool bats on the exterior of the house in which was weather proofed with a high strength continuous monolithic vinyl membrane jacket that was mechanically fastened on the exterior walls.

- Installed half of the 120/240V wiring system for a net-zero solar energy monitoring house working with Cal Tech engineers complex designs and constraints
