Brookdale Community College –Lincroft, NJ – Adjunct Professor
September 2004 to May 2014
Outstanding Adjunct Professor Award 2009-2010

Construction Documents – I teach a class of typically (15-20) students to produce all of the drawings necessary to build a single family residence with an addition of their own design.  Students are encouraged to explore the relation of their own past and projected futures to the family residence. I also collect all student projects at midterm and then combine all projects into one small community development drawing and then redistribute the hybrid community drawing to the entire class work as part of a larger block planning exercise. The class then learns from each other and has a shared library of work. The program that I teach is primarily AutoCAD 2009. In addition to teaching computer aided drawing skills, I also instruct the students to explore basic architectural rendering techniques by hand.

Rendering and Animation – In this class, I teach basic through advanced rendering and animation skills through a one semester long project.  At the end of the term, the students have learned to produce a short animation including sound and or music, typically 1-3 minutes, with a subject of their own choosing. I instruct this class to explore creative techniques using multiple programs and not to rely on any one program specifically.  The various programs that I introduce and demonstrate include, 3D Studio MAX, Window Movie Maker, Photoshop and AutoCAD. I also introduce the class to the power of distributive and nocturnal computing.

3D Computer Aided Modeling – In this class, I teach advanced orthographic projection, in addition to solid and surface modeling.  All students prepare individual projects given a predetermined framework. The class is given a typical apartment within Le Corbusier’s Unite’ d’Habitation and then begin to three dimensionally model their own apartment.  All students are responsible for overall design, furniture layouts, lighting and finishes. At the conclusion of the semester, each student is responsible for their own unique three dimensional model and several interior perspective renderings describing their own vision.

Engineering Graphics - In this class I teach basic to intermediate engineering graphics through a series of incrementally complex drawing exercises. The first half of the semester focuses on constructing drawings through purely orthographic projection.  In the second half, I introduce basic 3D solid modeling techniques to generate multiple views. The final project is a series of drawings of machine parts that combine into one assembly drawing of a simple machine.
