I often think of design as the interaction between spaces. By spaces I mean, the placement of furniture in a room, the breathing room between typography, the placement of a series of benches next to a path, an open sky versus a canopy. I think in many ways design is a feeling or a kind of intuition. How the tension feels between spaces, and the possibilities are endless entirely depending on the intent. The relationship between these spaces could be a variety of things like a change in material, a grade change, color difference, or distance. Overall, I believe design to be a process of exploration. It’s trying to convey an idea using visual and spacial relationships.
