Photography operates through the use of light and shadows. Light exposure affects the resulting photographic image. In architecture, light can affect the programmatic relationships of the interior. Different spaces have different functions that require varying lighting qualities. Spaces that would normally be grouped together for programmatic reasons are divided according to their desired amounts of light. The open vertical circulation core is the southernmost part of the building and attempts to draw southern daylight into the interior.

The project proposal approaches Prague Castle from both above and below, becoming simultaneously ephemeral and earthly. The facade veil cascades across the Stag Moat valley from the castle buildings behind the north wall. The darkest spaces burrow and carve away at the topography.

The main floor structure folds around the three main programmatic spaces: the museum, the archive, and the research facilities. Small floor structures define the smaller spaces within those programs.
