In 1983 the 50-meter pool at the USC McDonalds Swim Stadium was constructed to FINA standards of that time for the XXIII OLYMPIAD (1984 Olympic Games). Rowley International designed this all-deep-water pool with two moveable flow-through stainless steel bulkheads and was innovative in the use of 24” deep overflow gutter channels to disperse the flow of water and enhance the swimming environment for the swimmer. This “FAST WATER” concept has stood the “Test of Time” and is used extensively throughout the world in the premier competitive swimming pool facilities.

1983 the first World Record fell in this pool at the opening swim meet.

• 1984 during the Olympic Swimming Events 11 World Records and 37 Olympic Records fell.
• 1999, 18 years later at the Janet Evans Invitational, Penny Hynes of South Africa broke 4 World Records in the same pool during her build up to the 2000 Olympic Games.
• Today, after a quarter of a century this innovative swimming pool design has proven it has stood the “Test of Time”.
