db house

With the introduction of the extension at first floor, the original façade of this 1970’s modernist dwelling is fused in a clear architectural expression.

At the entrance,
the open view of the sea and the private garden below draw the attention away from the interior of the house. The space around the entrance is flexible allowing for the natural scene to be slowly absorbed. Inside all is
transformed and sculpted into a multilayered progression of volumes. The house is intriguing as the birch plywood climbs along the stepped theatre leading the circulation onto the kitchen level above.  At this level, the dialogue between clarity of materials and volumes is evident. As the roof unfolds itself upwards, the textures of concrete, steel, glass and birch plywood are married within this defining architectural interior gesture.

With its double heighted volume, the space is captivating, inviting the user to absorb the interior surroundings. With the back to the kitchen wall, the seaview reunfolds below along with a panoramic horizon of the islands beyond forming a backdrop to the living room above.
