The old saying by Peter Cooper in the early years of the Cooper Union has in the past few weeks been tested and questioned like never before. As some of you might have already seen in this <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/01/education/cooper-union-may-charge-tuition-to-undergraduates.html?_r=1" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">NY Times article</a>, the school as a whole is faced with a serious financial predicament requiring a critical decision of whether or not to begin charging tuition in aims of diminishing the budget deficit amount. There's been a lot of discussion regarding this issue both on the scale of individuals as well as school-wide forums. The controversy ultimately comes down to whether or not the school can operate or function with its current model and philosophies of education if tuition is charged.</p>
