Dream the Combine, Germane Barnes, Nina Cooke John, Design Earth, and SO – IL among winners of the 2022 USA Fellowship

The United States Artists (USA) Fellowship is a program that celebrates the work of artists and their "essential role in society." Across ten disciplines ranging from architecture and design (A&D) to craft, media, and film, 63 artists were inducted into this year's fellowship cohort.

The 2022 USA Fellows representing the discipline of architecture and design are Tom Carruthers and Jennifer Newsom of Dream The Combine, Germane Barnes of Studio Barnes, Nina Cooke John of Studio Cooke John, Rania Ghosn and El Hadi Jazairy of Design Earth, and Jing Liu and Florian Idenburg of SO – IL.

Each design practice has produced notable works and made important contributions to the architecture and design community. From academia to the arts, civic engagement, and professional practice, this year's selected winners represent the future of industry changemakers. United States Artist (USA) has announced their 2021 USA Fellows. Across ten disciplines ranging from architecture and design to film, writing, and music, sixty artists were inducted, making it the largest fellowship cohort the organization has awarded during its 15-year history.

"The USA Fellowship is the organization's flagship program and is central to its mission of believing in artists and their essential role in society. In many ways, 2020 has shown the resilience and necessity of that mission and the organization. As a founding partner of Artist Relief, United States Artists helped to distribute over $20 million in direct funding to nearly 4,000 artists in need [...] To make its work possible, United States Artists actively fundraises each year and is supported by a broad range of philanthropic foundations, companies, and individuals committed to cultivating contemporary culture across the country" shares the organization.

United States Artists yesterday celebrated the 54 USA Fellows for 2012 at a gala at The Getty Center in Los Angeles. Fellowship grants of $50,000 each were awarded to outstanding talent in the disciplines Architecture & Design, Crafts & Traditional Arts, Dance, Literature, Media, Music, Theater Arts, and Visual Arts.

The six fellows for 2012 in the Architecture & Design category are Jesse Reiser & Nanako Umemoto of New York firm Reiser + Umemoto, RUR Architecture; Marcelo Spina & Georgina Huljich of LA-based practice P-A-T-T-E-R-N-S; Stephen Luoni, Director of the University of Arkansas Community Design Center; and landscape architect Kate Orff of SCAPE.

United States Artists has honored the USA Fellows for 2011 at a festive event earlier this week in Santa Monica, CA. Fellowship grants of $50,000 each were awarded to fifty outstanding performing, visual, media, and literary artists or artist teams. USA Fellowships are presented annually in the disciplines Architecture & Design, Crafts & Traditional Arts, Dance, Literature, Media, Music, Theater Arts, and Visual Arts.

The five fellows in the Architecture & Design category are Ada Tolla & Giuseppe Lignano, Elena Manferdini , J. Morgan Puett, Jenny E. Sabin, and Mabel O. Wilson.
