Ending the service also meant that about 10,000 drivers would be out of work, Taylor Patterson, an Uber spokeswoman, said. &ldquo;Folks are devastated,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;People are saying, &lsquo;I don&rsquo;t know how I&rsquo;m going to pay my rent.&rsquo;&rdquo;</p></em><br /><br /><p>In cities like Austin&mdash;with no comprehensive rail service, a dominant car culture and a large youthful population&mdash;ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft are omnipresent. Could he lose his license, despite the quality of his work? The TBAE absolutely reserves that right.</p></em><br /><br /><p> The requirement applies not just to new applicants, but also to licensed architects seeking to have their registrations renewed. Violators face a fine of up to $5,000 per day in which they are not in compliance with the new law. Currently only one other state (Massachusetts) even runs criminal background checks on architects. Now Texas is upping the ante.</p>
