Architecture & Design Film Festival 2013 returns to NYC in October

The Architecture & Design Film Festival the largest U.S. film festival devoted to the subject, is returning for its fifth year at Tribeca Cinemas in New York City for five days from Oct. 16-20. This year's schedule is packed with premieres, panel discussions, Q+A sessions, book signings, and more.

Festival directors Kyle Bergman and Laura Cardello curated 25 films from 10 countries into 15 different programs that will be accompanied by discussions with filmmakers, designers, architects, and industry leaders. Ranging from 2 to 95 minutes, the films delve into the work of creative architecture and design visionaries, and collectively focus on universal topics in urbanism like scale, population, urban planning, and architecture.

Several films will also make their debut. Opening day includes a peek into Danish film "The Human Scale" by Andreas Dalsgaard that looks into the works of city planner Jan Gehl, who studied human behavior in cities over the past 40 years. The world premier...

Archtober–New York City's Architecture and Design Month–is fast approaching. The anticipated festival from Oct. 1-31, 2013 continues to grow with an amazing variety of exhibitions, conferences, films, tours, and other activities to celebrate the importance of architecture and design in everyday life.

Major exhibition on polymath designer Norman Bel Geddes to open at MCNY

The "Norman Bel Geddes: I Have Seen the Future" exhibition will open at the Museum of the City of New York starting Oct. 16. Presented by MCNY and the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin, it will be the first major exhibition to explore the life and multi-faceted career of the man whose futuristic designs shaped the image of modern America during the early half of the 20th century.

This event is also in promotion through Archtober, a festival of architectural and design programs, exhibitions, and activities happening throughout New York City in the month of October.

Curated by MCNY's Donald Albrecht (Curator of Architecture and Design), the five-part exhibition will begin with Bel Geddes' birth in 1893 and the early stages of his creativity, then delve into his prime decades from the 1920s-1940s, and finally end with his post-war-period works until his death in 1958.
