Manhattan’s first public beachfront opens at Gansevoort Peninsula, designed by Field Operations

The 5.5-acre Gansevoort Peninsula has opened at Hudson River Park, the first public beachfront in Manhattan. The $73 million project was designed by Field Operations and includes a large sports field, boardwalks, promenades, lawns, a picnic area, and an ecological salt marsh.

The southern edge of the park provides direct access to the Hudson River for non-motorized boats and views of both the river, the lower Manhattan skyline, and Day’s End, a monumental, site-specific sculpture by David Hammons. The adjacent beach holds 1,200 tons of sand with beach umbrellas, Adirondack-style chairs, and a misting feature for cooling down or rinsing off sand.

Plans for the "Made in NY" Campus in Brooklyn are unveiled

A project team lead by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), nARCHITECTS, Perkins Eastman, and W Architecture and Landscape Architecture has unveiled renderings for a new economic hub slated for the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn.

The so-called Made in NY (MiNY) campus is on tap to bring 200,000 square feet of renovated garment industry workspaces to the Bush Terminal district located on South Brooklyn's East River waterfront. The facilities will allow New York's thriving garment industry to retain a foothold in the city close to housing that is affordable to garment workers. Industrial facilities will include spaces for garment manufacturing and film and media production, as well as 5.6 acres of landscaped and public spaces.

The NY Times on nArchitects' winning scheme for the adAPT micro-unit competition

Nick Lembo, the president of Monadnock, recruited nArchitects for the competition. “Some architects shy away from modular construction, and some are intimidated by micro-units,” he said. “But Mimi and Eric were excited by the creative challenges. They created an incredibly space-efficient unit with an open design that will make it feel larger than its square footage.”
