New Quarter, New Year, New Resolutions

We welcome in the new year with a new quarter!

So many things are happening here in Columbus and at the Knowlton School of Architecture.

To start it off, Columbus is having its bicentennial this year and are sponsoring many activities for the public to get involved. Visit 200Columbus to explore activities that are taking place in Columbus:

The KSA was well represented at the TEDx Columbus which kicked off the Bicentennial Celebration. Knowlton Architecture faculty, Bart Overly and Jaime Green spoke regarding "a Moment in Time".  I found these presentations very interesting especially since I have Bart Overly this quarter for a Habitat Studio. To watch Bart Overly's TEDx Presentation click here.

The ULI Urban Design Competition is well underway which integrates students from City Regional Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Business. Click here to learn more about Ohio State's involvement in the ULI Competition.  The KSA continues to encourage its students to get involved in competitions outside of school.

This year my new years resolutions include taking more advantage of all the KSA,the Wexner Center, and Ohio State have to offer. To enhance my intellectual side, I am looking forward to attending the weekly Lectures every Wednesday night- the next lecture is Guy Nordenson on the 18th. Below is the KSA Lecture Schedule. I also hope to make it to the WEX at least once a month. Click here to see all that is happening at the Wexner Center for the Arts.

To better my physique, I am attending fitness classes at the RPAC. The first week of every quarter you get to try fitness classes like Spinning, Kickboxing, Pilates, etc to see which ones you enjoy. Using the exercise equipment and the track is free all year round.

The weather in Columbus has been mild so far which was very nice for gallery hop this past weekend. Gallery hop is the first Saturday of the month when all the galleries in the short north are free and open to the public until 10pm but most shops and bars stay open until midnight or 2am.

As it gets closer to figuring out where I want to be after graduation I realize how lucky I am to be in Columbus and have access to the resources at Ohio State.

Another resolution is to post more often! Ill keep you informed on my progress.

    -A.Belson

About this Blog

I am a graduate student at the Knowlton School of Architecture at The Ohio State University. My studies are a blend of theoretical and conceptual design with an emphasis on human spatial experience. In this blog I will attempt to provide an in depth look at what it is like to be a graduate student at Knowlton School of Architecture. In addition, I will share insight on life as an M.Arch Grad Student in Columbus in their 20 somethings.
