UCLA’s end of year show “RUMBLE” today and tomorrow

I know I’ve been a bit of a total schmuck with this blog, but this year was NUTS. I have a bunch of updates I’ve been planning for months, but school just didn’t let up. So before I post any real updates about this year I wanted to put up a quick note about UCLA’s end of year show - Rumble. Everyone is putting the finishing touches on the work and it looks really great, so stop by for the public (i.e. ‘party’) component if you’re in LA today (Monday June 7). The day begins at 3pm with a symposium featuring some pretty amazing speakers (Sylvia Lavin, Thom Mayne, Jeff Kipnis, Monica Ponce de Leon, Greg Lynn and Neil Denari to name just half of those participating) called “The Disappearing Hand”, about the broad cultural impact of digital tools after the initial excitement around their possibilities has worn off. The official exhibition opening of Rumble begins after the symposium at 6pm and runs to 9, and will feature the work of course, but perhaps more importantly the chance to get drunk on free booze with famous people (well, architecture famous at least - it’s relative). The actual final reviews are tomorrow, starting at 9am and running until 6pm. My studio, under visiting professors Michael Ra and Jeff Kock of Front Inc will be reviewed in the afternoon session, at 2pm.

FINALLY just finished setting up our boards and models for studio - we're doing a high speed rail station in Chicago

    The Artless Drawing

As a side note, the show I helped curate and install with a UCLA student team working under Sylvia Lavin opened last night, and was pretty awesome. It’s called The Artless Drawing and features the amazing late 80’s to early 90’s pre-digital drawings of Neil Denari. I mention it because you can still catch it - it runs through July 15 at Ace Gallery on Wilshire, and actually has a second opening concurrent with the other openings at Ace on June 19 if you missed the one last night.

Hope to see you at Rumble!
