My studio, of thirteen students, just got back from Los Angeles last week. We had a very productive trip there with a site visit and a tour of Los Angeles. Our site is located in Santa Monica, in a very banal section of Santa Monica Boulevard. Now our job is to create a gem for the environment. 
We also had visits to the offices of Morphosis and Koning Eizenberg, where our professors, Maria Guest and Mohammed Sharif, used to work before they started their own firm. We even had a crit in one of the conference rooms of Koning Eizenberg.
We are working with hand drawings and with modeling. Our materials are limited to piano wire, string, pins, needles and any other material that is reminiscent of our line drawings that we spent the first three weeks working on.
Highlights of the trip included a visit to a Lautner House, where the owner had a private Turrell that we got to experience at sunset, Santa Monica Beach, The Getty, LACMA, a visit to the set of Mad Men, driving on Mulholland at night, a visit to downtown Los Angles, a visit to Sci Arc, a tour of the Eric Moss complex and lots of warmth.

Did you have the chance to drive the length of Santa Monica Blvd? I like to think that every bit has its own character. The difference from start to finish is more drastic. (Although Sunset Blvd is a better specimen)
