    3.5 :: Spending 3 more years in school sounds like a great idea!

    I don't have anything interesting to say today, but it's worth noting that USC recently got approval to restart their dormant Ph.D. in Architecture program. I haven't decided if I'm going to apply yet, but for those of you who might be interested, here's some information from Doug Noble, the Ph.D. program chair.
    ~~~~~
    Ph.D. Program
    The School of Architecture
    University of Southern California
    Los Angeles, California
    The USC School of Architecture opened its' new doctoral program in 2008. The School of Architecture is one of the very best schools in the country, and we are seeking well-qualified students to join the Ph.D. program in Fall 2009.
    We completed our new $9 million graduate programs building two years ago. All Ph.D. students receive scholarships. USC has a large architecture school with about 500 undergraduates and more than 150 graduate students. We are located in the vibrant architectural culture of downtown Los Angeles, California.
    I look forward to hearing from you.
    Prof. Douglas Noble, FAIA, Ph.D.
    Ph.D. Program Chair
    ~~~~~

    For those of you who actually read any of that, I will now reward you with photos of the goats I saw today in Downtown Los Angeles.

    Cheers!

      what are goats doing in LA?????? cool!!!

      in a class today, a girl mentioned she had been in this school through undergrad, and is now doing her masters, so by the end, she'll have 8 years in the same school. someone asked if she was planning on doing a phd here also, and she said 'no way!!!'

      but it wouldn't be such a long time with you, right? really, doesn't seem like a bad idea at all depending on your interests. it's great that you get the option.

      Goats, keeping the fire risk down.

      I heard when they first started this program, people who lived in view of the hills would have "goat viewing" parties: invite some friends over, serve wine and hor d'oeuvres (made with goat's cheese, natch), and watch the quaint and adorable goats.

      My friend the farmer peed his pants laughing when i told this this story.

      He he... One morning while visiting my parent's home recently I sat quietly down at the breakfast table where my father was drinking his morning coffee. After a while I caught him staring dreamily out the window with a smile playing around his face. I asked him what he was thinking about and, looking around and seeming surprised to see me there, he said, "ohh... i was just thinking about how i'd like to have a pet goat... i could keep him in the backyard..."

      I'll have to send him these pics and tell him his dreams can live on.

      Emily needs to use her skills to affect some tangible change in the world. If at some point, this involves getting a Ph.D. and refocusing on the academic implications of architectural sustainability, then Emily should do that. In the nearer term, I think Emily should go where the world wants and needs her most.

      ;-)

      eK- only go after the PhD if you want to grow a billygoat beard!

      I am a Libra, therefore I am a little of both. I love thinking but I am also one of those overly proactive-take charge types, so I end up doing as much as thinking.

      Apparently the goats finished 2 weeks planned work in two days. We're hoping we can get the goats to build the subway to the sea.

      Em- got the card btw, will be live.

      I love the way you switch between profiles, with their own personalities to boot. Also I always assumed other countries had goats running around the freeways. Sarcasm asside - were they there for a reason? Cheaper than verge cutting immigrants, do tell. And do they come with their own carbon rating?

      I just milked a goat for the first time on my birthday. The teats feel like water balloons.

      Appleseed that's hilarious!

      techno, the goats were there to clear brush and weeds from a steep hill in a small Downtown park. They cost half as much as a human crew would have to do the same job. I, personally, am all for barnyard animals in the Downtown area! I think it gives the city character. :o)
