    The Future Is Now.

Holy Crap. Architectures students with frickin' laser beams on their heads. LASER BEAMS! How cool is that???

Bless the kind soul that invented the laser cutter. I just did about 4 hours of hand work in 15 minutes. The bright purplish laser is not only amazing in its cutting efficiency but mesmerizing in its photonic beauty. And the smell of freshly burnt basswood is soothing in its nostalgic recall of summer camp fires.

    Bitchin technology at work:

UCLA was my 2nd choice so i'm curious what you guys are up to. you're already using the laser cutter for projects this early on in the quarter?

vado that is the best response i have read in a while

ACFA, I have been playing with all these technologies (prototyping, lasercutting CNC routers) for my CAD CAM class. And have been thinking about their great potential and fearing of what it means at the larger socio-political level. As you said SOME architecture students have lasers at their hands, what about those that dont? And for those of us who do, will we become servants to the technological master or will these technologies free us to explore things not thought of before.

Best example is Gehry, I can hardly think of anyone that has used and adapted to technologymore than his office has. But has technology helped or hindered their creativity, does the possiblity of anything mean nothing?

Heh, ah, the wonder of the laser cutter... I remember being an undergrad at Berkeley and being EXTREMELY jealous of the grad students who got to use the laser cutter (we weren't allowed). I wonder if they'll let the undergrads next year use it...?
