The project is located in a complex topography, between the city’s historical castle and a gully. The goal of the project was to preserve the natural quality of the site while regenerating the area’s activity. To achieve this, the steepness of the topography is solved with a series of terraces, built with earth from the site itself in the form of rammed earth walls, that organize the different spaces and allow the visitor to easily move around the park. The cultural center is a consequence of this logic, merging into the terrain as the rest of the terraces, while generating the access to the park and public plaza in its roof with views towards the landscape. The building separates from the existing wall to obtain natural sunlight and cross ventilation. Earth construction reduces the building’s ecological footprint: reducing energy cost and CO2 emissions while passively saving energy thanks to its large thermal inertia. To relate the different areas of the park and solve the furniture, a system of wooden pieces is designed, that adapt to the irregular forms of the site thanks to its orthogona disposition and vary according to its function. All the vegetation used is local and most of it was preserved from the original park. A rainwater storage system is designed for irrigation.
